For each assignment you are required to submit your self-assessment. Note: this is a non-programming assignment to be done individually.

This assignment consists of two (+ one) parts.

Part 0: Name Coach

Record your name on Moodle using Name Coach. Click here and follow the direction.

Part 1: How Does it Do That?

Over the next few days, track your use of technology:

Pay attention to what you’re doing, and to what’s happening in response. Find one example where you don’t know how it works. Don’t worry about your explanation sounding silly. It’s okay if you’ve never thought about how this particular thing works before! The goal of this activity is not to “get the answer right”, but rather to start to notice the role computation plays in your own day-to-day life, and to explore the edges of your own understanding.

Answer the following questions (1-3 sentences):

Part 2: I Believe

I Believe is “an international organization engaging people in writing and sharing essays describing the core values that guide their daily lives” (see also NPR).

In this homework, you will write a short “I Believe” essay (< 500 words) about your core values as they relate to technology (defined broadly).

What events have shaped your core values? What moments formed or tested or changed your beliefs about technology? “Think of your own experience, work, and family, and tell of the things you know that no one else does. Your story need not be heart-warming or gut-wrenching—it can even be funny—but it should be real” [thisibelieve.org].
